Where the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel comes from
Cavaliers were the lap dogs of English King Charles II's court. The modern breed was recreated in the 1920s after the flat-faced type took over.
Personality and daily life
Gentle, affectionate and sociable. Cavaliers love everyone, including strangers and other pets, and are excellent with children.
Cavaliers are cuddly and get along with nearly everyone. They are prone to heart problems, so choose breeders who health test.
Exercise, grooming and health
Moderate walks and cuddles. The silky coat needs brushing a few times a week. Heart disease (mitral valve) and syringomyelia are serious risks, so buy from health-tested parents.
Is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel right for you?
Families, older owners and anyone wanting a gentle companion. Not a guard dog.
- Copes well with apartment living
- Great with children
- Easy to train, good for beginners
